About Khon Kaen

Khon Kaen is situated in the heart of northeastern Thailand, approximately 400 kilometers from Bangkok; the nation’s capital. The northeastern part of Thailand, which is commonly referred to as E-Saan, consist of twenty provinces. The total area of E-Saan is over 170,000 square kilometers or roughly one-third of the entire country. It borders on the Lao’s People Democratic Republic and on Cambodia to the East. E-Saan is rich in natural beauty and also noted as the center of old-age civilizations and customs that date back to pre-historic times. Furthermore, the northeastern ancient traditions and customs are also reflected in fairs and festivals held at different times around the year. Currently Khon Kaen is one of the fastest growing cities in the Northeast. This fact is not due only to its central geographic position, but also to government initiative to promote Khon Kaen as a gateway to Indochina. Furthermore, Khon Kaen has been designated as a regional center and one out of the nine industrial cities in the country. Traveling to Khon Kaen is easy since Khon Kaen is conveniently situated for road, rail, and air transport to lead to other major cities.
